Although DDR3 RAM may be a bit dated on today’s modern PCs, it still does a great job on my old gaming PCs.

If your gaming PC was also a few years ago, DDR3 may be your only choice. DDR4 is faster and stronger though. But it may not be right for your PC.

This is because the appearance of DDR4 is different from DDR3, and the slot position has changed. So your old motherboard will not be able to install DDR4.

As a gamer, you may be concerned that the lack of DDR4 RAM may hurt your gaming performance.

Don’t worry! After our tests, these best DDR3 RAMs will not affect game performance. They are even better than some DDR4.

Is DDR3 RAM Good?

It is worth noting that DDR4 is the new standard carrier and has been in use for several years. Therefore, it is faster than DDR3.

However, unlike most technologies, it hasn’t changed much, and if you are using an older version, it is still technically possible.

DDR4 RAM will make future computer upgrades easier (newer components do not support older DDR3 motherboards). Since its release, its price has dropped enough that the value proposition of DDR3 is not high.

So, if your device supports DDR4, we suggest you choose DDR4 (Check out the best ddr4 ram here). Their prices are almost the same.

But if you are still running older devices, DDR3 is also a good choice. They have reliable quality and excellent overclocking capabilities.

Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB Kit

It’s one of the most popular RAMs, and it’s great for speed when you need crazy gaming performance.

With the looks and design of the sticks, it is very encouraging and enticing. That is not just because it comes in four colors (red, white, black, and blue).

More so, it has a low profile and an asymmetric heatspreader that gets the job rightly done.

From a performance perspective, it can boost the frequency to 1866MHz. Its conversion delay is between CL9-CL11, and the voltage from 1.35V is very low. Even if you are new, it is very easy to overclock.

Overall, HyperX is worth choosing, both in terms of performance and appearance.

All in all, this is a product that performs well in all respects and is cheaper.

Pros /Cons
  • Affordable
  • Reliable and durable
  • Strong compatibility
  • Poor heat spreader

4. Corsair CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10 Vengeance 16GB

Corsair CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10 Vengeance 16GB

In my opinion, this Corsair Vengeance chip is one of the best DDR3 RAMs currently.

First up, it’s huge for this price point. You get a full 16 GB for your money, which will mean you don’t have to buy more RAM for quite a while, and can run your favorite games at the very highest graphical settings.

Assuming you have enough space, you can easily integrate it into your existing systems.

Like all the RAM in this list, it can be plugged directly into your motherboard and requires minimal setup from a software perspective.

However, what really sets Corsair Vengeance apart is the overclocking feature that comes with it. This RAM is designed from the bottom up, so you can easily and safely overclock.

And if you’re still scared of overclocking, fear not. The Corsair Vengeance also comes with a lifetime warranty, so if it gives up you can return it.

Pros /Cons
  • Safe overclocking as standard
  • large capacity
  • lifetime warranty
  • Need a good GPU for best performance

5. Patriot Viper III 16GB

Patriot Viper III 16GB DDR3 RAM

Patriot RAM kits are getting popular these days, especially for the DDR4 platform where some memory kits are able to perform at 4200 MHz frequency.

DDR3 RAM kits are also excellent, have a higher frequency range, and are also excellent overclockers, as these kits are usually covered with excellent heat sinks.

In fact, one of The Patriot Viper RAMs’ unique logos used to be tall and weird looking radiators, especially in the DDR2 era.

Although Viper III introduces a beautiful looking radiator, it works well.

It has an alternate frequency of 1866 MHz and supports XMP 1.3. These kits are manually tested by the company, which is why as long as your system supports them, these sticks will definitely run at 1866 MHz.

When overclocking, we were able to see 2200 MHz easily. Further pushing it was a bit of luck and we were able to see 2400 MHz stable with the help of 1.65v voltage.

Pros /Cons
  • Tested manually
  • Compatible with most devices
  • Excellent radiator
  • Speed is not as good as other products

6. Ripjaws 8 GB RAM

Ripjaws 8 GB RAM

Delivered from the production lines of GSkill, the Ripjaws DDR3 memory core lies somewhere between the Corsair Vengeance and the Pro Series in price. Coming in at 1600MHz, it’s not a real contest with the aforementioned Pro Series, but still compares reasonably well to the regular Vengeance line.

This is offered in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB configurations, so you can choose the amount of memory you desire. While out of the box it will likely show a speed in the range of 1300MHz, it’s safely overclocked to 1600MHz with an easy modification of the XMP settings.

Although it’s a capable memory unit, this DDR3 offers negligible difference over the Vengeance with regards to performance and is priced higher at the 16GB level.

A capable memory core it may be, but it offers less value compared to the Vengeance.

Pros /Cons
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Good speeds
  • Heatsinks for optimal thermal performance
  • A little on the pricey side
  • Aesthetic won’t suit all users

What is the best amount of RAM for gaming?

  • 4GB RAM: Enough for multitasking and enough for games, but not both. If your budget is limited, it may be your choice.
  • 8GB RAM: 8GB of RAM is more than enough for most gamers and consumers, especially because the RAM footprint of modern games is about 6GB.
  • 16GB RAM: Ideal for multitasking and gaming, as well as more advanced applications such as VMWare.
  • 32GB + RAM: Not necessary at all, unless you are running a server or other extreme situation. From a gaming perspective, there are no obvious benefits either, so you really shouldn’t spend that much money.

For most users, the most practical solution is to simply choose 8GB, as it exceeds the requirements of modern games and can reasonably support multi-tasking games in the background.

If you really have stronger performance or have other additional requirements. We recommend you buy 16GB.

Criteria to choose the ddr3 ram 8gb

When you want to buy the best ddr3 ram 8GB, there are some parameters to keep in mind. These parameters include:

  • Architecture: The first thing you need to look at is architecture. You can install this RAM only if it is compatible with the memory slot or motherboard. The 204-pin architecture is the most common one.
  • Speed: Secondly, you have to look at the speed of the RAM as well. Ideally, most ddr3 ram sticks which are available these days have a speed of 1600 MHz.
  • Compatibility: You must check whether these DDR3 are compatible with your system, motherboard, etc. before purchasing. There is nothing more frustrating than ordering the RAM and finding out that it is not compatible with your system.
  • Configuration: When you’re looking for the best ddr3 ram 8GB, you can either go for a single stick which has 8GB capacity, or two sticks which have 4GB capacity each.

Which DDR3 RAM is Right For You?

All of the featured DDR3 memory modules are excellent at what they do, and it’s difficult to pick a winner among them. Most of these entries fit the bill when it comes to price versus performance, although the cost will vary widely among the differing modules.

If you’re looking for exceptional memory speed and to push DDR3 technology to the limit, then the Corsair Vengeance Pro’s 2400MHz is your choice. However, the price for that level of performance comes at a cost, and most seasoned gamers will do just fine with the 1600MHz -1866MHz range offered by the rest.

Having said that, the Kingston Hyper X Fury offers that rare combination of speed for a respectable price. Clocking in at 1866MHz, at a price less than most 1600MHz modules, the Fury is the clear leader in the gaming DDR3 field.

We tested 12 DDR3s, including G. Skill, Corsair and Kingston. And some good RAM.

In the end we chose the best 5 DDR3 RAMs. They are suitable for different people, but which one you choose depends on your personal needs.

If you want the best gaming experience, use G. Skill Ripjaws X Series. If you want balanced performance at a lower price, Crucial is the best choice.
